When we moved to Colorado, we thought we’d be staying here forever.
Ted found a good job.
We found a beautiful home.
We met so many new (and old) friends.
I began a job that I love at an amazing church.
I’ve become a writer in Colorado:
- I write for YOU (Thank you for reading!)
- I recently began writing for Colorado families through the Colorado Springs Mom blog,
- I write for churches and families throughout the United States through Homefront Magazine,
- I write for mother’s through the Help Club for Mom’s Bible studies
- I even published a Colorado children’s book – hoping to make it a series.
Our family has thrived here, and we absolutely love this place. There is so much beauty all around us every day. It’s soul-filling.
However, changes are ahead.
We are about to embark on a new adventure: We are moving to Minnesota.
Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. – Helen Keller
My husband has accepted a job with Target Corp. He will be working in Executive Leadership Development at the Target headquarters in Minneapolis.
Until a couple of weeks ago, I had never been to Minnesota.
The only two things I knew about Minnesota were:
Minnesota was not on our radar. It was not in the plan.
I guess sometimes we go off script and follow the adventure of the unknown, unfamiliar.
After I went through the stages of grief, I’m choosing to move forward in joy, trusting we will find and create beauty in a new place.
Though we chose Colorado as our place, my true place is with my family. Wherever they are is home. Where they are is my place. They are my people.
My favorite quote over the last couple of weeks has been:
“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Thank you Dr. Suess!
Our friend and pastor, Daniel Grothe, reminded my husband that when we moved to Colorado, we were ALL IN! He recommended we have the same attitude in Minnesota. Be ALL IN. This is such a good reminder, such wisdom. Thank you Daniel!
I’ll be re-reading the book: This is Where you Belong: Finding Home wherever you are. I’ll also refer back to this POST: 8 ways to LOVE where I LIVE – as we adventure into a brand new place.
I’ve begun following the Twin Cities Mom Blog, and other blogs and checking out Pinterest to see all there is to do in Minnesota.
I’m looking forward to:
- meeting new people,
- finding a good church,
- discovering the best places to eat,
- learning how to stay warm in winter,
- exploring this beautiful state!
Have any of you been to Minnesota? What can you recommend we do and see? Where should we go?

July 9, 2018 at 10:55 amI know wherever your family is planted, that God will use you, and you will find ways to make it HOME. That was something I learned in the military- you bloom wherever you are planted.
We love you. Aunt Kim and Uncle Roger.

July 9, 2018 at 7:39 pmI like the Excitement of a new home, were in our fourth home!!! I really don’t believe in rooting in the material of the home, even though homes are safe , they are just material where you pak it up take your wonderful memories with u , your church , family and friends is all part of the importannce of life .The house is the building that God provides We’re u make it home , but has nothing of permanent value because the most important part follows you family 💙 and at anytime you can leave it and start where God plants you next !!! He has great plans for you all !! Congratulations on your husband New job. Bravo !!!

July 10, 2018 at 9:16 amKath, I really appreciate this post and can feel your heart and identify with you so much …
I never wanted to live in the Northeast but found these words in my heart as I moved to New York a few years ago.
‘It’s not so much where you live but How you live that matters’
As you move forward by faith it will be good and exciting and as you pull together through transition AS A FAMILY, your family bond will be stronger.

July 10, 2018 at 11:47 pmKathryn – I so enjoy reading your blog and following your family adventures. I know moving is hard and can be a challenge. I am inspired by your positive attitude about your new adventure and what life has in store for you in Minnesota!
My youngest son and his wife just moved today from Oregon to start a new job in Michigan. There were lots of tears saying goodbye to friends but they are believing for good things ahead too!
I follow a blogger named Kelly Gordon (aka Kelly@lovewell) on Instagram and on the Sorta Awesome podcast. She and her family live in Minneapolis too. Perhaps you could follow her too and hook up!
Love to you all and many blessings on your journey ahead!

July 13, 2018 at 8:50 amWhat a great post! As you know Ted and his sister grew up in a Military home and we moved 14 times in twenty years. Each transistion always opened the door to apprehension and facing the unknown. But every place we moved, we always found a good church, friends and adapted to the area or country we called home.
God is with you no matter where you go and you always will be his ambassadors to the community and employer you become immersed in.
Where ever you go, you have your relationship with God and your immediate family. Home truly is where your family is.
I have watched you and Ted face each new change with Grace, and watched as you instilled excitement in the boys so the move became an excitement and an adventure for the boys.
Great things are ahead for the Egly family. God’s Grace will establish you and enable you in all transitions you will face in life.
I believe this scripture speaks volumes and will be an encouragement to you!
“But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You. For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.”
Psalms 5:11-12 NKJV
Mom and I love you, and are very proud of you!!
